RESOLUTION - Declaring January 25th to be "Kameron Saunders Day of Dance" in Kansas City in recognition of his achievements in the performing arts industry.

WHEREAS, Kameron Saunders was born in St. Louis where he found a love for dance at a young age and was enrolled in a performing arts middle school, graduated from Metro Academic & Classical High School and while attending classes at the Center of Creative Arts, attended Webster University, and completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Kameron has choreographed for companies like the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Saint Louis Ballet, Missouri Contemporary Ballet, Owen/Cox Dance Group, as well as for editorials like "If I Was An Animal" by Vogue and Burberry; and

WHEREAS, Kameron served as a principal dancer in "The Color Purple" and "Spirited" and performed with Lizzo at the BET awards, Saucy Santana at the MTV awards, and has joined Taylor Swift's sold-out Eras Tour as a dancer; and

WHEREAS, Kameron is a recipient of the Passion Project Grant from the Jaquel Knight Foundation, the 2022 Princess Grace Award, one of the 2023 Joffrey Ballet Winning Works choreographers, and was one of eight internationally selected choreographers for a Choreography Fellowship at Jacob's Pillow; and

WHEREAS, Kameron has aligned his talent and passion for dance and choreography to uplift aspiring performers and to advocate for broader representation and inclusion within the performing arts industry; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare January 25th to be "Kameron Saunders Day of Dance" in Kansas City in recognition of the achievements of Kameron Saunders; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in test...
