RESOLUTION - Congratulating Alise Martiny for her service to the Greater Kansas City Building and Construction Trades Council and her advocacy for the recruitment of women to the construction industry across the greater Kansas City area.

WHEREAS, Alise Martiny was accepted into the Kansas City Cement Masons' Apprenticeship Program in 1980 as a concrete finisher apprentice and embarked on 13-year career where she became an expert decorative concrete finisher; and

WHEREAS, after more than a decade of working in the trade, Alise took on the role of Apprenticeship Coordinator in 1993 and Business Agent for the Cement Masons' and Plasterers' Local Union 518 in 1999; and

WHEREAS, in 2012, Alise was elected to serve as the Business Manager/Financial Secretary for the Greater Kansas City Building and Construction Trades Council-the first women to hold that position; and

WHEREAS, Alise has been a tireless promoter for women and minority inclusion in the construction industry for years, developing the MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) program sponsored by the National Association of Women in Construction that plays an important role by illustrating that the construction trades are a viable ambition and career path for women; and

WHEREAS, Alise was honored with the first ever Trades Women Build Nations Lifetime Achievement Award from the North American's Building Trades Unions (NABTU) during a presentation at the 2022 Trade Women Build Nations Conference; and

WHEREAS Alise has accepted a position with Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' International Association where she will continue her efforts to make the construction industry and welcoming and purposeful career path for women across the county; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
