Honoring the Southside Pre-School for its 46 years of service to the Kansas City youth.

WHEREAS, in 1975, Curtis and Annie Mae Hammons Sr. had the vision and the passion to provide a service to the families of the greater Kansas City area and so provided early learning and childcare for the children in the area; and

 

WHEREAS, the Hammons opened their first preschool, as Memorial Preschool at 3700 East 67th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, and for the next 10 years children came eager to learn; and

 

WHEREAS, it did not take long before the Hammons realized they needed a larger location and with prayer  and faith moved to their new location that would be the home of their preschool for the next 36 years, Southside Christian Church at 7304 Cleveland Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, the Hammons loved the location so much that they made the decision to change the name of the preschool to Southside Preschool where over the next 36 years the community has supported Southside Preschool generation after generation with families bringing their children, and their children bringing their children, to Southside Preschool to be prepared for early learning and childcare, before entering school; and

 

WHEREAS, Annie Mae served as Owner and Director until she retired with Curtis Sr. continuing to work as the President of the Preschool, as his daughter-in-law, Patreace Hammons became the new Director where she served the children with as much love, excitement, passion, enthusiasm, and faithfulness as Curtis and Annie Mae had served; and

 

WHEREAS, on September 30, 2021, Mrs. Patreace Hammons and Mr. Curtis Hammons, Sr., and the staff said goodbye to the last student as they left and turned the lights out for the last time and retired; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the Southside Pre-School for its 46 years of service to Kansas City youth; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mr. Curtis Hammons, Sr., Mrs. Belinda Hammons and Mrs. Patreace Hammons with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the dedication of teaching the community preschoolers and getting them ready to enter school.
