Honoring and recognizing Douglas McMillan on his retirement from the Office of the City Attorney after 25 years of dedicated service to the City.

WHEREAS, prior to coming to the City, Mr. Douglas McMillan worked in the Corporation Counsel’s Office in Chicago for 12 years and as such was already a seasoned litigator; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Douglas began his career with the City as an Assistant City Attorney in 1996 as a litigator, handling a variety of tort, commercial litigation, housing and employment cases, and successfully defended the City in countless cases; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Douglas has tried over a dozen jury trials, 50 bench trials and handled over 30 appeals in which he promoted the City’s best interests; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Douglas was appointed Manager of Litigation in 2004 and in that position has trained over a dozen attorneys to also promote the City’s best interests; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Douglas is a devoted family man who looks forward to spending time with his family and indulging his love of fishing; and

 

                     WHEREAS, throughout his career, Douglas has maintained the highest standards of professionalism and ethics; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Douglas takes with him his knowledge of the workings of municipal government, his skill in the courtroom and his ability to provide sound leadership and guidance, his presence will be sorely missed; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

                     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

                     That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their most sincere appreciation to Douglas McMillan for his 25 years of distinguished and exceptional service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri together with heartiest best wishes for the future; and

 

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to him in token of the grateful appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the excellent services and leadership provided by him to the City, its officers and employees for so many years.
