Expressing congratulations to the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law on the 125th anniversary of its Founding.

WHEREAS, the Kansas City School of Law was founded in 1895 as a private, independent law school, merged with the University of Kansas City in 1938, and affiliated with the University of Missouri system in 1963; and
WHEREAS, the School of Law was founded to provide an opportunity "for students too poor to leave the city to study law" and welcomed students "without distinction of sex, race, or citizenship" and continues to open doors to legal education to first-generation college students, members of underrepresented communities, and legal professionals from around the globe; and
WHEREAS, the UMKC School of Law trains students to be practice-ready professionals by providing ten different in-house clinics, placements in courts, government offices, and nonprofit legal service agencies throughout the region and a solo and small firm curriculum; and,
WHEREAS, the UMKC School of Law serves the greater Kansas City community, providing over 38,000 hours of free legal services to the community annually and sharing faculty expertise and the administration of justice through scholarship, continuing education, and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, the UMKC School of Law alumni include over 7,000 living alumni who are leaders of the bench, bar and boardrooms in the greater Kansas City area, as well as a president of the United States (Harry S. Truman), a United States supreme court justice (Charles Whittaker), and countless federal and state government leaders and judges, including three Mayors of Kansas City (Henry L. Jost 1912-16, John B. Gage 1940-46, and Charles B. Wheeler, Jr. 1971-79), and over twenty councilmembers; NOW THEREFORE,
