Recognizing the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month .

WHEREAS, Americans with Disabilities Act was passed 31 years ago, and our Nation moved forward to recognize 60 million disabled Americans. The City of Kansas City has also recognized the need and has taken the initiative to be a more inclusive city that includes every citizen it serves; and
WHEREAS, October is recognized as National Disability Employment Awareness Month by the United States Department of Labor to commemorate the many and varied contributions of people with disabilities to America's workplaces and economy; and
WHEREAS, the ADA is more than a law, it provides opportunities for so many to live an independent life, providing the resources needed without any discrimination, and the Department of Labor has celebrated 20 years of helping workers with disabilities throughout the Nation; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Labor and the City of Kansas City have recognized the many challenges in the workplace these past years, such as developing comprehensive resources to ensure those with disabilities have access to the rights and resources due under the ADA, such as flexibilities, tools and accommodations in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and celebrating National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month is a way to demonstrate support from local, state and federal initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers that impede persons with disabilities from being a positive and contributing member of the workforce; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof a copy thereof be presented to Cassidi Jobe of Summit ...
