RESOLUTION - Celebrating the Kansas City Current and authorizing the City Manager to fly the Current flag over the City of Kansas City during “Teal Tuesday” in advance of the team’s 2024 home-opener.

WHEREAS, on March 16, 2024, the Kansas City Current will kick off its 2024 season against the Portland Thorns; and 

WHEREAS, the Current will open play at their new home stadium on the riverfront, CPKC Stadium, the first soccer stadium purpose-built for a women’s professional sports team in the world; and

WHEREAS, the Current has celebrated Teal Tuesdays to highlight local food and beverage partners at CPKC Stadium, and will continue to celebrate all things KC Current on Teal Tuesdays and every day during the upcoming season; and

WHEREAS, the KC Current will celebrate Teal Tuesdays by raising the KC Current flag at CPKC Stadium and other locations throughout Kansas City to show excitement for the team; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council are excited for the Current season to kick off at CPKC Stadium and to celebrate the team’s successes and leadership in the community and encourage all to enjoy the beautiful game played by world-class female athletes right here in Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby celebrate the opening of CPKC Stadium and the kickoff of the 2024 KC Current Season; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the KC Current, with the Mayor and Council authorizing the City Manager to fly the KC Current flag on Teal Tuesday on March 12, 2024 before the team’s home opener.
