RESOLUTION - Recognizing the Historic West Bottoms Association for its work and dedication to the historic area and region, and in celebration of 10 years of activities and events drawing attention and attracting visitors to the West Bottoms.

WHEREAS, the area known as the West Bottoms significantly contributes to the historic makeup and character of Kansas City and serves as a commercial-industrial district connecting the communities of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS the history and development of the West Bottoms is unique and began with trading among Native Americans and the French, and it is centrally located and has been essential to the growth and development of the entire bi-state region; and
WHEREAS, the Historic West Bottoms Association has partnered with many organizations and businesses for over 60 events since Heritage Days' beginning in 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Historic West Bottoms Association, originally known as the Central Industrial District Association, is celebrating its 100th year of serving the district and Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, the Historic West Bottoms Association continues to partner with organizations like Taste of Asian American Pacific Islands, Strawberry Swing, West Bottoms Bikes, The Oliver Building, Ox Cafe and Bakery, the Latino Arts Foundation, the Urban Core Group, The Ship/All Else the Sea, the Wilbur Niewald Plein Air painting event, PortKC, Kissick Construction, and the Neighborhood Tourism Development Fund to host and coordinate the West Bottoms Heritage Days; and
WHEREAS, this annual celebration will highlight the progress and potential of the West Bottoms both as a historic district and as a commercial-industrial district; and
