Recognizing the Kansas City Greek Picnic for 10 years of Organizational Community Service.

WHEREAS, July 18 through July 24, 2022 is the 10th Anniversary of the Kansas City Greek Picnic held in Kansas City, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, KCGP was established by Stanley Taylor, Jr. in 2012 attracting a diverse audience of more than 8,000 collegiate and graduate members of African American Sororities and Fraternities; and
WHEREAS, KCGP became a fundamental start to Kids Community Growing Prosperity, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2016 by Stanley Taylor, Jr., Dorothy Shelby, and Akilah Pennington; and
WHEREAS, this annual week-long festival has raised funds to support 120 service projects and more than 5,000 health screenings accomplished by KCGP since its existence; and
WHEREAS, Clean Up the Street is a major beautification project of KCGP geared towards reducing litter, deterring illegal dumping and improving a sense of place and ownership; and
WHEREAS, Inner Beauty Clothing Closet is a partnership project of KCGP with Kansas City Public Schools to nurture confidence and self-esteem in young learners; and
WHEREAS, more than $75,000 in scholarships has been provided to support education along with school supplies, books and uniforms; and
WHEREAS, KCGP continues to unify, strengthen and embrace members and non-affiliates alike to support youth around the Midwestern region; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the Kansas City Greek Picnic for its valued decade of service towards the community and youth in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Stanley Taylor, Jr. with the Mayor and Council honoring the Kansas City Greek ...
