RESOLUTION - Directing the City Manager to research and develop plans for policies to support victims of domestic violence and make recommendations to Council within 90 days.

WHEREAS, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month; drawing attention to the critical need for communities to support victims of domestic violence; and

                     WHEREAS, domestic violence affects individuals, families, and communities, often leaving victims with long-lasting emotional, physical, and financial trauma; and

                     WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City is committed to protecting and supporting victims of domestic violence through comprehensive policies and programs that provide practical assistance and create safer communities; NOW, THEREFORE,

                     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

                     That the City Manager is hereby directed to research and develop plans for providing utility relief assistance to domestic violence victims, establishing a domestic violence victim support fund, and designating Kansas City Fire Department stations as safe spaces and access points to critical resources for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; to determine the budgetary costs and staffing needs of implementing such programs, to identify potential funding sources; and to make recommendations to Council within 90 days.
