Recognizing Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for over 100 years of being mission focused, forward moving, and a lifetime of commitment.

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the first intercollegiate, Greek-letter Fraternity founded for African Americans. Since its founding on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, more than 150,000 members have been initiated into the Fraternity; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities; and
WHEREAS, in the early 1900's until now, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. took the lead in the African American voting rights struggle and coined the nationally famous phrase: "A Vote less People is a Hopeless People" as part of its effort to register minority voters; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc. continues its commitment to the community through the Fraternity's Education and Building foundations that provide scholarships to outstanding students and shelter to underprivileged families. Demonstrating the vision necessary for the next millennium, the Fraternity has dedicated itself to training a new generation of leaders with national mentoring programs and partnerships designed to ensure the success of our children and our future; and
WHEREAS, the true definition of my brother's keeper can be found within their mission, "Alpha Phi Alpha, the pride of our hearts and loved by us dearly art thou. We cherish thy precepts; thy banner shall be raised. To thy glory, they honor, and renown;" NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare that we acknowledge and celebrate Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Lambda Chapter host of the 90th Midwestern Regional Convention, Friday, April 29, 2022; and
