Recognizing the Foundation for a Drug- Free World Kansas City Chapter and The Church of Scientology Kansas City for the observance of October 23-31, 2022, as "National Red Ribbon Week," a national campaign to encourage drug prevention activities during the last week of October.

WHEREAS, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation empowering individuals with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free; and
WHEREAS, through a worldwide network of volunteers, many of them hosted by Churches of Scientology have distributed more than 50 million drug prevention booklets and tens of thousands of drug awareness events have been held in over 180 countries; and
WHEREAS, drug overdose is the leading cause of death of people aged 18-45 with more people in this age range dying from fentanyl overdoses than COVID-19, gun violence and car crashes combined as reported from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) under the U.S. Department of Justice; and
WHEREAS, volunteers from Drug Free World Kansas City have been engaging in prevention efforts through education. Using the Foundation's "Truth About Drugs" resources, elementary and secondary educators can use the free materials in a classroom, group instruction or community learning setting so that anyone who wants to educate others on the truth about drugs can take immediate action; and
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Chapter of the Foundation for a Drug Free World will be hosting an event on the 22nd of October in partnership with the Church of Scientology Kansas City in recognition of "National Red Ribbon Week"; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize October 23-31, 2022, as "National Red Ribbon Week"; and
