Recognizing September 9-18, 2022, as Welcoming Week in Kansas City.

Whereas, Welcoming KC recognizes the significant impact immigrants make on Kansas City, with $3.5 billion in spending each year, and $1.3 billion in taxes paid; immigrants also bring innovation, a rich culture, and new ideas to the region; and
Whereas, Welcoming KC is a coalition of local government, business, and nonprofit sectors that has created a roadmap of programs, policies, and activities needed to achieve official Certified Welcoming designation from Welcoming America; the goal is to be recognized as an inclusive community; and
Whereas, Welcoming KC is participating in Welcoming Week, a nationwide initiative bringing together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity; and
Whereas, the theme of Welcoming Week is “Where We Belong,” aiming to reflect on how and why belonging occurs, and ways we can break barriers so places, including Kansas City, can foster belonging for all, including immigrants and refugees; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their thanks and appreciation to Welcoming KC for substantially working to ensure that Kansas City known as a destination inclusive of all races, places, ethnicities, and backgrounds; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Welcoming KC in token of the Mayor and Council’s thanks for its influence, intervention and dedication to helping make Kansas City a welcoming place for all.
