Honoring Lindsay Shannon on his retirement after 45 years as a Blues music radio presence in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, Lindsay Shannon from KCFX 101.1-FM radio station is retiring after 45 years as a Blues music radio presence; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Shannon is recognized as a national Blues historian and local icon and has been a mainstay on the Kansas City airwaves; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Shannon has promoted Blues music since 1977, first at KCUR-FM, and the last 36 years at KCFX, 101.1-FM and his show, The Kansas City Blues Show, has been syndicated as far as California and Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Shannon is one of the founders of the Kansas City Blues Society (KCBS) and has tirelessly promoted Blues music through different paths over the last 45 years; and
WHEREAS, the paths included writing articles for the country's premier Blues magazine, Living Blues, writing for the KCBS' magazine, The Blues News, and teaching a course on the history of Blues music through Communiversity; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Shannon's has had the greatest impact on Blues music by establishing and operating the legendary restaurant, BB's Lawnside BBQ, a mainstay on the east side of Kansas City where he served up 30 years of promoting national Blues acts and discovering and nurturing local Blues artists, along with serving up mouth-watering BBQ; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Lindsay Shannon on his retirement after 45 years as a Blues music radio presence in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Lindsay Shannon with the recognition by the Mayor and Council for bringing Blues music to the Kansas City area and increasing the awareness, understanding, and appreciation for this...
