Accepting a $12,000,000.00 grant from the United Stated Department of Agriculture's IRA Urban and Community Forestry Grant program to increase the density of Kansas City's urban tree canopy through a collaborative effort between the Neighborhood Services Department and the Parks and Recreation Department; estimating revenue and appropriating funds; and recognizing this ordinance as having an accelerated effective date.

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri is committed to adopting policies, programs and practices that align with the Climate Protection and Resiliency Plan to improve natural environments for all residents; and

WHEREAS, the Neighborhood Services Department is committed to providing opportunities and access to resources that improve neighborhood environments; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the Director of Neighborhood Services is authorized to accept a $12,000,000.00 Urban and Community Forestry Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service to provide tree planting, maintenance and removal, education on tree canopy importance to neighborhoods, and an updated tree inventory.

Section 2. That the Director of Neighborhood Services is authorized to execute a grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to govern the administration of the grant. A copy of the grant agreement is on file with the Director of the Neighborhood Services Department.

Section 3. That revenue in the amount of $12,000,000.00 is hereby estimated in the following account of the General Grants Fund:
