RESOLUTION - Directing the City Manager to seek alternative transportation methods in the City that will enhance service, close transit gaps, and expand connectivity.

WHEREAS, current Kansas City public transit options are primarily limited to fixed route services; and
WHEREAS, portions of Kansas City are underserved by existing fixed route services, creating “transit deserts”; and
WHEREAS, innovative systems which allow for dynamic routing and better connectivity have been developed for and are widely utilized by cities across the globe; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to better serve its residents by implementing a high quality, on demand transit service; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to seek alternative transportation methods that will enhance service, close transit gaps, and expand connectivity.
Section 2. That the scope of the City Manager’s direction will include, but not be limited to, connectivity to existing transit options, business and commercial hubs, and other specified destinations.
Section 3. That the City Manager is hereby directed to develop a solution and prioritizing locally based transportation companies in this solution which will expand transit access to those currently underserved, including those in transit deserts, low-income residents, the disabled, and seniors.
