RESOLUTION - Declaring April 22, 2023, as SWAGG, Inc., Day in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, SWAGG, Inc., "Serve Witness and Give Guidance" is on a mission to help people impacted by mass incarceration to own their story, own their finances and own their future. SWAGG, Inc., aids in the creation of a smarter, more caring criminal justice system that does not set people up for failure; and
WHEREAS, SWAGG, Inc., understands that incarceration rarely just happens, and a proportion of people are on a trajectory towards prison. SWAGG, Inc. looks to interrupt those trajectories through advocacy and programming, encouraging persons to never go in; and
WHEREAS, SWAGG, Inc., understands that staying out is not easy. The system releases people into tumultuous situations. The system provides less, expects more, and punishes severely when someone falls. SWAGG, Inc., works to help new releasees find work or start a business. Providing support and encouraging person to never go back; and
WHEREAS, SWAGG, Inc understands that the prison complex system takes away everything, usually from people who did not have much to begin with. SWAGG, Inc., promotes ownership by creating opportunities for formerly incarcerated people to experience healing, planning, employment, and sustainability; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize SWAGG, Inc., for being dedicated to programs and partnerships that foster the mindset of ownership under the umbrella of entrepreneurial development, emotional intelligence, and not judgement mentoring to its clients and hereby declare April 22, 2023, to be SWAGG, Inc., Day in the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented ...
