Recognizing the month of October 2022, as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri is committed to developing and maintaining a talented workforce that reflects the rich diversity of the citizens of our city; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the City of Kansas City to support and encourage individuals with disabilities to fully participate in the community and economic life of our community and engage in competitive integrated employment; and
WHEREAS, 79.8% of working-age people without a disability are employed, while only 37.1% of working-age people with a disability are employed; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City is committed to reducing discrimination, eliminating barriers to employment, and attracting talented candidates into state employment; and
WHEREAS, Summit Future Foundation empowers youth and young adults with developmental disabilities in leading a meaningful, independent and inclusive life. Summit Future Foundation received The Governor's Council on Disability's annual Inclusion Award recognizing their organization for illustrating excellence in leadership for the "best of the best inclusion practices"; and
WHEREAS, this Model Employer Initiative is designed to increase the City of Kansas City's inclusion of persons with disabilities in their general workforce, as well as to embed best practices of disability inclusion into the City's civil rights and equal opportunity efforts; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the month of October 2022, to be National Disability Employment Awareness Month and declare that Kansas City, Missouri is striving to be an inclusive city; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that ...
