Honoring Fire Chief Donna Lake, recognized community leader, first responder, organizational leader--a trailblazer and an inspiration for women in all walks of life.

WHEREAS, Chief Lake began her fire career in 1992, following in her father’s footsteps. Chief Lake progressed through the ranks from firefighter to assistant fire chief, progressing from there to Assistant City Manager for Public Safety. She was appointed Fire Chief in 2019 by former City Manager Troy Schulte, becoming the first female Fire Chief in the history of Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, she has made lasting and highly significant contributions to the betterment of her department and the City, to include launching a Community Paramedicine Program; undertaking significant work to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI),within KCFD; establishing mental and emotional health as a priority; leading initiation of multiple vaccination clinics with community partners; re-opening Fire Station 40 to restore effective service to critical Northland areas; initiating Basic Life Support 911 services; engaging personnel in world-renowned training experiences; implementing a range of new technology, equipment, communications, personal protective equipment; and many other accomplishments too numerous to list; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their thanks and appreciation to Chief Donna Lake for her years of service and substantive contributions leading our Fire Department; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Chief Donna Lake in token of the Mayor and Council’s thanks for her hard work, dedication, and influence to ensure our City is safe.
