Recognizing former Mayor Charles “Charlie” Wheeler’s life (1926-2022).

WHEREAS, Charles B. Wheeler, was elected to two consecutive terms as mayor of Kansas City in 1971; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Wheeler had a long career in service as a member of the United States Navy, state senator, doctor, and lawyer; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Wheeler led Kansas City through the opening of the Kansas City International Airport, Bartle Hall, and Kemper Arena, helping raise our city’s national and international profile; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Wheeler devoted his life to public service and serving all Kansas Citians, Missourians, and Americans; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Wheeler leaves behind his daughters Marion and Nina, preceded in death by his sons Gordon, Mark, and Graham, and Kansas City’s former First Lady, his beloved wife Marjorie; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby express their profound sorrow on the death of Charles “Charlie” Wheeler and offer their thoughts and condolences; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Charles’ family in token of the deep and sincere sympathy hereby extended to his colleagues, friends, and family on behalf of the City he well served.
