RESOLUTION - Honoring, celebrating, and recognizing  Hakima Payne upon her retirement from Uzazi Village, Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, Ms. Hakima Payne was born on September 18, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from Westport High School and Rockhurst University with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Hakima Payne founded Uzazi Village on May 21, 2012, and served as CEO thereof until December  31, 2024; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Hakima Payne is a registered nurse and lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri, dedicated to the health and wellbeing of childbearing persons, newborns and families; and  

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Hakima Payne, has lived, was educated and raised her family, and worked for several local hospitals in labor and delivery before starting her own nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the perinatal health of families locally and nationally; and

 

WHEREAS,  Uzazi Village has served this community with innovative strategies in doula care, childbirth education, doula training, prenatal care, health advocacy and health policy work, serving as a crucial vanguard in maternity care transformation in our city, state and nation; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Ms. Hakima Payne on her retirement from Uzazi Village, Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Ms. Hakima Payne for her dedicated and persistent work in improving maternal and infant health outcomes, advocating for improved healthcare ecosystems, and building insightful thought leaders to address healthcare challenges now and in the future.
