Declaring November 18, 2022, as National Childhood Injury Prevention Day in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City is committed to creating safe environments that contribute to our children's safety and well-being. The success of this mission is due in part to committed individuals and organizations working to empower diverse communities regardless of cultures, beliefs and lifestyle to make the communities safer; and

WHEREAS, injuries are the leading cause of death and disability to U.S. children one through 18. Hospitals, city agencies, community organizations and other partners are crucial in promoting safe practices; and

WHEREAS, injuries are significant problems in Kansas City and the City's many childhood injuries such as injuries from scalds and burns around the house from cooking, in the kitchen, baths, and around the house can be prevented; and

WHEREAS, on November 18, 2022, National Injury Prevention Day will be recognized to raise awareness and promote efforts in reducing injuries among children, the City of Kansas City commends Children's Mercy Hospital, Charlies' House, the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department, the Kansas City Fire Department and Injury Free Coalition for Kids; and

WHEREAS, many of these injuries and deaths are preventable with the use of safety practices, safety equipment, and the implementation of strong legislation. These local organizations have partnered together to prevent and reduce these injuries; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare November 18, 2022, National Childhood Injury Prevention Day in Kansas City, Missouri; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Children's Mercy with the...
