Congratulating the Kansas City Public Schools on receiving full accreditation from the Missouri State Board of Education.

WHEREAS, on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, after years of hard work, Kansas City Public Schools received full accreditation from the Missouri State Board of Education, effective immediately; and
WHEREAS, this is a tremendous accomplishment for Kansas City students, parents, teachers and school administrators; and
WHEREAS, in six years, KCPS improved its four-year graduation rate from 68.7% in 2016 to 77.8% in 2021; and
WHEREAS, in 2019, KCPS students exceeded the state’s expectations for academic growth in English Language Arts; and
WHEREAS, in 2021, KCPS students exceeded the state’s expectations for academic growth in math despite the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, KCPS continues to outpace state expectations for student growth, particularly among students of color; and
WHEREAS, KCPS has increased the number of high school students taking Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and dual credit courses by 34%; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the Kansas City Public Schools on receiving full accreditation from the Missouri State Board of Education; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Mark Bedell with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the dedication and hard work that has gone into getting back the accreditation for this school district.
