Honoring and recognizing the extraordinary work of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health in Region 7 and Convergence Counseling Services LLC, during BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month.

WHEREAS, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States; this year's theme is Beyond the Numbers; and
WHEREAS, regionally, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health in Region 7 and Convergence Counseling Services LLC will join state and local community stakeholders within the City of Kansas City in raising awareness of BIPOC mental health to shine a light on the unique needs, stories, and experiences of BIPOC communities; and
WHEREAS, we know that the numbers (statistics and data) focus on disparities rather than strength, resilience, and individual context; this year's theme, Beyond the Numbers, recognizes that every person is unique, so is every culture; together, we can gain knowledge of historical context, systems of support, and actionable ways to move forward toward a mentally healthy future; and
WHEREAS, Convergence Counseling Services LLC will host a series of events in recognition of BIPOC Mental Awareness Month to include "Issa Vibe: Mental Wealth for Teens" event for teens ages 12 to 18 years old throughout the month of July; these events will be held at Emmanuel Family and Child Development Center, 4736 Prospect Ave, Kansas City, Missouri 64130 on July 3rd, July 17th, and July 24th; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize July 2022 as BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month in Kansas City, Missouri; and
