Celebrating the life and legacy of Calvin Wainright and declaring December 21, 2022, as Calvin Wainright Day.

WHEREAS, Calvin Carzell Wainright was born to Alvin Joe and Marvine "Venus" E. Wainright on December 21, 1953; his passion for youth development began while living in the Wayne Miner Projects and manifested through service and dedication at the YMCA, Boy Scouts, Rotary Club, The Boys Club and Wayne Miner Sports Teams; and
WHEREAS, Calvin Wainright graduated from Manual High School in 1971 and attended Lon Morris Junior College in Jacksonville, Texas, Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, and Penn Valley Community College, earning a certification in Youth Development; and
WHEREAS, Calvin was taught the purpose of giving back to his community, as he worked and served at the Greater Kansas City Mental Health Foundation, Minute Circle Friendly House, Kansas City Free Health Clinic, and for many years at Don Bosco, under the leadership of Lou Rose, established the "We Hoop for Peace" a basketball program focused on building up young men, inspiring their dreams and desires to live and be successful.
WHEREAS, Calvin Wainright has been the recipient of the many awards including the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association "Outstanding Volunteer Coach of the Year" Award; the Kansas City People's Choice Awards "Humanitarian Award"; the "Hoodie" Award; LINC Employee of the Month; Fox 4's "Pay It Forward" recipient and most recently "The Legend Award" presented at the very first Calvin Wainright Basketball Classic; and
WHEREAS, Calvin Wainright was not only an exemplary man in public but his wife and co-laborer of Heaven Sent Outreach Ministries, Pastor Cassandra "Sandy" Wainright, his children, , grandchildren and a host of other relatives can attest to him being a man above men in the home; NOW, THEREFORE,
