Recognizing the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) for their work to improve the lives of those impacted by sexual abuse and assault with a mission to prevent sexual violence in our community.

WHEREAS, a sexual assault occurs every 2 minutes in the US with only 20% of victims reporting the sexual assault; and
WHEREAS, MOCSA provides free counseling to children, families, and individuals, 24-hour victim assistance in the form of a 24-hour crisis line, and hospital and police advocacy; and
WHEREAS, MOCSA offers therapy, support and advocacy for victims of rape and sexual assault, for sexually abused children and family, for adult survivors of sexual abuse, and for others affected by sexual violence; and
WHEREAS, MOSCA serves all gender identities, ethnic/racial identities, sexual identities, religious backgrounds, people with disabilities and survivors who have or haven't reported, being assaulted recently, assaulted a long time ago, or experienced childhood sexual abuse; and
WHEREAS, MOCSA produces education programs for children in pre-k through 5th grade to prevent sexual abuse, sexual violence prevention programming to middle school through high school students, and community/professional education to create public awareness about sexual violence and make the resources available to survivors; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the significant support, healing, and hope MOCSA has made to countless survivors of sexual assault in the Kansas City area; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the contributions of MOCSA; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault for their work to improve the lives of those impacted by sexual abu...
