RESOLUTION - Directing the City Manager to engage Jackson County in discussions regarding potential land acquisition opportunities for a new rehabilitation and detention center facility.

WHEREAS, Council has directed staff to proceed with developing a rehabilitation and detention center facility; and

WHEREAS, Council Resolution No. 191028 directed the City Manager to contract with SFS Architecture to complete a jail needs assessment, along with an evaluation of potential sites for a future rehabilitation and detention center facility; and

WHEREAS, City staff, in collaboration with SFS architecture, identified locations for a potential rehabilitation and detention center and provided recommendations to Council regarding each site’s viability; and

WHEREAS, City staff has identified viable sites for a new rehabilitation and detention center facility that include land partially or wholly owned by Jackson County; and

WHEREAS, the City’s Special Committee for Municipal Rehabilitation and Detention is completing a review and preparing recommendations on the needs of a new rehabilitation and detention center facility to the full Council; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the City Manager is directed to engage Jackson County in discussions regarding potential land acquisition opportunities for a new rehabilitation and detention center facility.
