RESOLUTION - Recognizing the Musical Exchange between Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Kansas City, both member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

WHEREAS the City of Belfast became a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2021, and the City of Kansas City, Missouri joined in 2017 - as the first UNESCO City of Music in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri has long benefited from the contributions of Irish citizens and descendants from Ireland and Northern Ireland; and

WHEREAS, both UNESCO Cities of Music seek to advance music education, and the development of their respective music infrastructure, and music tourism; and

WHEREAS, Creative City KC has worked with the Belfast International Arts Festival and the City of Belfast to arrange a musical exchange beginning in November 2024 on the occasion of the Sound of Belfast; and

WHEREAS, the organizations have arranged the Bridging Beats - from Kansas City to Belfast, on Saturday November 9, 2024, which will feature Kansas City musicians Jass Crouch, and Kadesh Flow with Clarence Copridge and Kemet Coleman in a showcase performance; and

WHEREAS, Kansas City's membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network provides unique opportunities to promote the City as a destination and to raise awareness of the importance of music as a core driver of sustainable development and cultural tourism; and

WHEREAS, Kansas City's Mayor and Council recognize the value and importance of citizen diplomacy and the power of musicians as cultural ambassadors, NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the work of Creative City KC, Inc., the City of Belfast, and recognize musicians Jass Crouch, Ryan "Kadesh Flow" Davis, Kemet Coleman, and Clarence ...
