RESOLUTION - Recognizing June 2026 as National Immigrant Heritage Month in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, National Immigrant Heritage Month is observed across the United States each June to celebrate the contributions of immigrants, honor the rich diversity they bring to our communities, and reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and welcoming nation; and  

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City has long been shaped and strengthened by generations of immigrants who have come to this city seeking opportunity, safety, freedom, and a better future for their families; and  

 

WHEREAS, immigrants in Kansas City play a vital role in every sector of our community, from small business and entrepreneurship, to healthcare, education, faith, the arts, and civic leadership, making invaluable contributions to our city’s cultural, social, and economic fabric; and  

 

WHEREAS, National Immigrant Heritage Month is an opportunity to highlight the shared stories of courage, resilience, and hope from immigrants past and present, and to amplify the experiences of immigrant communities who continue to face challenges in accessing resources, rights, and representation; and  

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City reaffirms its commitment to being a welcoming city where diversity is celebrated, inclusion is practiced, and all people regardless of their country of origin are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect; and  

 

WHEREAS, through local initiatives, partnerships, and community-led efforts, Kansas City is proud to uplift the voices of immigrants and support the efforts of organizations that promote pathways to citizenship, advocate for equity, and foster belonging for all; NOW, THEREFORE, 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 

 

That the Mayor and Council honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of immigrants throughout our city’s history and recognize June 2026 as National Immigrant Heritage Month in Kansas City, Missouri; and  

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Eye of an Immigrant, the Mayor’s Commission for New Americans, and members of Kansas City’s Immigrant Community, with the Mayor and Council inviting all Kansas Citians to join in celebrating the vibrant cultures and stories that make Kansas City a stronger and more united community.
