Accepting a 2026-2027 STOP Violence Against Women Act grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, and passed through the State of Missouri’s Department of Public Safety to support the work of the City Prosecutor’s Office Domestic Violence Program; estimating and appropriating $305,921.66 in the General Grants Fund; authorizing the City Attorney to enter into a subaward grant agreement in connection with this grant; and recognizing this ordnance as having an accelerated effective date.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women passed grant dollars to the State of Missouri’s Department of Public Safety for the 2026-2027 STOP Violence Against Women (VAWA) Grant totaling $305,921.66 and the City has previously appropriated required matching funds required in the amount of $101,017.05; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Law Department, through the Prosecutor’s Office Domestic Violence Program staff, will be the project administrator for this grant; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the revenue in the amount of $305,921.66 is hereby estimated in the following account of the General Grants Fund:

 

27-2580-130001-471240-G23VAWA27                     Violence Against Women Act

   Grant                                                                                    $305,921.66

 

Section 2. That the sum of $305,921.66 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropriated Fund Balance of the General Grants Fund to the following account:

 

27-2580-135702-A-G23VAWA27                                          Violence Against Women Act

   Grant                                                                                     $305,921.66

                     

Section 3. That the City Attorney is authorized to accept a 2026-2027 STOP Violence Against Women Act grant in the amount of $305,921.66, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and passed through the Missouri Department of Public Safety to support the Prosecutor’s Office Domestic Violence Program.

 

Section 4. That the City Attorney is authorized to execute a $305,921.66 subaward grant agreement with the Missouri Department of Public Safety to govern the administration and management of said grant.

                                                                                                                                                   

Section 5. Authorizing the City Attorney to enter into a $305,921.66 grant agreement with the State of Missouri’s Department of Public Safety to govern the management of the 2026-2027 STOP Violence Against Women Act grant.

 

Section 6. That the City Attorney is hereby designated requisitioning authority for the Account No. 27-2580-135702.

 

Section 7. That this ordinance, appropriating money, is recognized as an ordinance with an accelerated effective date as provided by Section 503(a)(3)(c) of the City Charter and shall take effect in accordance with that section.
