Declaring February 21, 2022, as “Engineers Week” in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, engineers provide the talents and skills necessary to analyze and solve complex problems and create the infrastructure essential for the high quality of life which citizens of Kansas City, Missouri enjoy; and

WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry of Kansas City, Missouri is vital to the efficient planning, design, construction and operation of the public infrastructure, which includes water, sanitary and storm sewers, streets and highways, bridges, public buildings, communications, and electricity and natural gas distribution; and

WHEREAS, engineers provide the health, safety, welfare, comfort and economic vitality of this community as well as the success of various city-wide construction projects; and

WHEREAS, engineers address the major technological challenges of our time from rebuilding towns devastated by natural disasters to designing infrastructure that will take the City of Kansas City, Missouri through the 21st century; and

WHEREAS, there exists in Kansas City, Missouri one of the nation’s largest collection of engineering firms of which are known and recognized worldwide as leaders in their profession; and

WHEREAS, the Western Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers in partnership with the Eastern Chapter of the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers are celebrating the 71st Annual Engineers Week through a ceremonious luncheon at the Marriott in downtown Kansas City on February 24; and

WHEREAS, the week of February 21, 2022 has been designated worldwide as the 71st Annual National Engineers Week; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare February 21, 2022, as “Engineers Week” in Kansas City, Missouri; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to all the Professional Engineers with the Mayor and Council calling upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing quality infrastructure and to recognize the significant contributions which our engineers make every day to our health, safety comfort and quality of life.
