RESOLUTION - Celebrating and honoring former Health Department Chief Financial Officer, Vickie S. Watson, for outstanding service to public health in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, Vickie S. Watson began her 19 years of service with the Health Department fiscal team in 2005 and quickly ascended the ranks to become the Chief Financial Officer; and
WHEREAS, Vickie S. Watson was dedicated to being an exemplary steward of financial resources entrusted to her care; and
WHEREAS, Vickie S. Watson demonstrated the agility and the ability to master one of the most complex department budgets, which included managing up to 19 different fiscal grant years; and
WHEREAS, Vickie S. Watson was determined to find fiscal and policy solutions to support the Health Department and collaborated with managers to excel in providing resources and services to the community; and
WHEREAS, Vickie S. Watson was the epitome of a life dedicated to public service through her tenacity, technical grant management expertise, and as a resource to her colleagues on the local, state, and federal levels; and
WHEREAS, Vickie S. Watson’s commitment to transferring her fiscal knowledge and fiscal management lessons to department staff continued until her passing on January 25, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the collaboration, compassion, and standard of excellence of Vickie S. Watson truly led the department to become a national leader in public health; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby celebrate and honor the life and service of Vickie S. Watson and the Health Department by dedicating a collaborative space within the Health Department, to be the Vickie S. Watson Innovation Conference Center; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to The City of Kansas City Health Department with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for all the Health Department’s esteemed work and contributions.
