RESOLUTION - Honoring Officer James Muhlbauer.

WHEREAS, all police officers in Kansas City, Missouri are on the front lines; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Muhlbauer was a 20-year veteran of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (“KCPD”), highly trained and respected in his field; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Muhlbauer was trained to handle canine officers of the KCPD, and handled Canine Officer Champ, a 1-year veteran of the canine unit; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Muhlbauer died in the line of duty on February 15, 2023, following a tragic traffic collision in which Officer Muhlbauer’s patrol car was struck by another vehicle; and

 

WHEREAS, the collision caused the loss of Officer Muhlbauer’s life, as well as those of Canine Officer Champ and an innocent civilian pedestrian; and  

 

WHEREAS, Officer Muhlbauer did everything he could in service of the KCPD and as a protector of his sister and brother officers, including the Department’s Canine unit; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Muhlbauer’s passing represents a personal loss to the KCPD, Officer Muhlbauer’s family, and to all who knew him as a cherished professional colleague, friend, and member of the Kansas City, Missouri community; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Muhlbauer’s death marks the first death of a Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Officer in the line of duty since the death of Officer Craig Schultz in 2001; and

 

WHEREAS, Officer Muhlbauer, a dedicated and loyal public servant, will be dearly missed by his colleagues, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and the entire metropolitan region, NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the lives and service of Officer James Muhlbauer and Canine Officer Champ; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Officer James Muhlbauer’s family in recognition of his dedication and service to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.
