RESOLUTION - Congratulating and recognizing the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Citywide Bloomberg What Works Cities team members on achieving the Gold Level Certification in the Bloomberg What Works Cities initiative and reaching an elite international standard for data excellence in local governance.

WHEREAS, What Works Cities Certification, founded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and led by Results for America, helps local governments utilize data and evidence at scale, to tackle their most pressing challenges and improve residents’ lives; and

 

                     WHEREAS, on January 14, 2026, What Works Cities Managing Director, Rochelle Haynes, announced that the City of Kansas City, Missouri, has attained Gold Certification, which demonstrates a continued commitment to improving how data is used to invest funds and make decisions, enabling it to target resources where they are needed the most and respond effectively to community priorities; and

 

                     WHEREAS, this Gold Certification highlights the City of Kansas City, Missouri’s continued progress across key practice areas, including data management, performance and analytics, open data, and leadership capacity, and affirms the City’s dedication to a more transparent, results-driven governance; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, remains steadfast in building on this momentum and advancing data-driven practices that deliver measurable impact for residents throughout the City of Kansas City, Missouri; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate and recognize the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Citywide Bloomberg What Works Cities team members on achieving the Gold Level Certification in the Bloomberg What Works Cities initiative and reaching an elite international standard for data excellence in local governance; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Alec Sithole, Connor Alexander, David Reynolds and Mac Cook (Chief Data Officer, and Data KC team members, City of Kansas City, Missouri - Neighborhoods Department), Dr. Alex Francisco (Chief Science Officer, City of Kansas City, Missouri - Health Department), Andrew Ngui (Chief Digital Officer, City of Kansas City, Missouri - City Manager’s Office) and Data Liaisons from all departments across the City of Kansas City, Missouri, with the Mayor and Council encouraging all to join in congratulating those Citywide Bloomberg What Works Cities team members for their achievement in obtaining this Certification.
