RESOLUTION - Honoring Mayor Pro-Tem Kevin McManus for his eight years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kansas City.

body

WHEREAS, since 2015, Kevin McManus has served as the Councilman for Kansas City’s Sixth District. Kevin has been honored to represent the same district in which he was born and raised and to raise his two boys, Liam and Daniel, with his wife, Alejandra, in South Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, prior to being elected to the City Council, Kevin served as State Representative in the Missouri General Assembly, being first elected in 2010 and re-elected 2012 and 2014. As a State Representative, Kevin was a leading voice for passing campaign finance reforms. He fought for passage of legislation to end the tax credit, job-poaching “border war” between Kansas and Missouri. He also passed legislation to support Kansas City’s free health clinic and support Kansas City’s veteran, mental health and drug courts; and

WHEREAS, in 2019, after his re-election to the City Council, Mayor Quinton Lucas appointed Kevin to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem, as Chair of the Special Committee for Legal Review and as a member of the Finance, Governance and Public Safety Committee; and

WHEREAS, as a councilmember, Kevin has advocated for transparency and accountability in the use of taxpayer dollars and for improvement in basic city services, including infrastructure repairs, code enforcement, and trash and recycling. Kevin sponsored and passed legislation to invest in aging infrastructure across the city, including in the Southland corridors of Brookside/East 63rd Street, Waldo/Wornall Road, and Martin City/135th Street. He fought for economic development initiatives citywide with an interest in finding innovative solutions for smaller projects that can make a big difference for surrounding neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, Kevin has greatly enjoyed the relationships he has developed with his colleagues and City staff and is grateful for the opportunity to do what he intended when he first ran for office - which was simply to make a positive difference in his community, NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their heartfelt and sincere appreciation to Mayor Pro Tem Kevin McManus for the countless hours of dedicated service he has selflessly given to the citizens of Kansas City during his eight years of service; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Kevin McManus as a token of the City’s gratitude for his years of service to the citizens of Kansas City.
