RESOLUTION - Recognizing Stonewall Sports KC's 5th anniversary and celebrating their impact in Kansas City among the LGBTQIA+ community.

WHEREAS, Stonewall Sports Kansas City's mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies to participate in sports and social activities without fear of discrimination or judgment, and to foster a strong sense of community among their members through sports leagues, social events, and volunteer opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Stonewall Sports KC was founded in 2019 with the launch of a kickball league, and has since served over 3,000 Kansas Citians. Stonewall Sports KC is a branch of Stonewall Sports Inc., a national non-profit headquartered in Washington D.C., whose name was taken from the Stonewall riots of 1969 to honor their sacrifice and struggle for liberation; and
WHEREAS, Stonewall Sports KC creates an environment outside of bars or dating scenes for the queer community to show up authentically, which builds joy and vibrant community. Individuals that are new to town or recently have come out as queer find Stonewall KC as a gateway into the LGBTQIA+ community in Kansas City: and
WHEREAS, Stonewall Sports KC partners with and has raised nearly $50,000 for local LGBTQIA+ nonprofits to further their missions of providing resources, support, and advocacy for the Kansas City LGBTQIA+ community. Stonewall engages in community events and activities that promote LGBTQIA+ visibility, acceptance, and inclusivity: and
WHEREAS, Stonewall Sports KC stands as a beacon of inclusivity and camaraderie in Kansas City's LGBTQIA+ community. The league provides a welcoming space where athletes of all skill levels and backgrounds come together to compete and connect.
