Honoring Ivori Smith for her dedicated work in organizing the Mayor's Night Nets program, introducing the sport of volleyball to urban youth and for providing a safe, healthy activity for young people in Kansas City, Missouri this summer.

WHEREAS, Events by Ivori, LLC was selected as the vendor to conduct an 8-week volleyball program for girls and boys ranging from 9-18 years old on Friday nights from June 17 through August 12, 2022;

WHEREAS, Mayor's Night Nets was sponsored by the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department at its Hillcrest Community Center, 10401 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO; and

WHEREAS, Ivori Smith, owner of Events by Ivori, LLC brought more than 20 years' experience in working with urban youth in the areas of literacy projects, personal development, and recreational activities; and

WHEREAS, Ivori has used her passion and expertise to provide support to youth football, soccer, track & field and volleyball teams, as well as coordinate resources, fundraising events and educational workshops for participants; and

WHEREAS, in these Friday sessions that ran from 6-10 p.m., the Mayor's Night Nets Program enrolled more than 80 youth, averaging about 65 in attendance each night. Ten coaches and referees led the youth through a range of volleyball skills from beginner to advanced levels; and

WHEREAS, each week there was an educational workshop covering topics such as proper Nutrition, What it Takes to be a College Athlete, Suicide Prevention, Attitude and Mental Health, etc.; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their thanks and appreciation to Ivori Smith, owner of Events by Ivori, for supporting the efforts to keep Kansas City's youth safe and healthy and for being a positive contributor to the Mayor's Night Nets program; and
