WHEREAS, the Kauffman Foundation has matched up to $100,000.00 if the American Jazz Museum could secure a grant match from the City of Kansas City, Missouri, the owner of the American Jazz Museum ("Museum"); and

WHEREAS, the American Jazz Museum has achieved pre-pandemic attendance levels over the past year and plans to incrementally increase museum attendance for the coming years; and

WHEREAS, other than the year 2020, over the past four years, the City has decreased the annual budget of the Museum by 18.75 percent; and

WHEREAS, the Museum has made significant growth in diversifying its funding sources; and

WHEREAS, the current funding of the Museum is inadequate to provide basic museum functions including strategy and necessary staff training; and

WHEREAS, the additional funding from the Kaufman Foundation and the City will be used for capacity building; organizational and staff development; and hiring a lead docent to design, develop and implement a docent-led tour experience for museum visitors; and

WHEREAS, this newly funded position would serve as a resident expert in the Collection and tour experience, recruitment and training a cohort of museum volunteers, and assisting the expansion of educational and school visit expe...
