Dedicating the Civil Rights & Equal Opportunity Department Board Room to Alvin Brooks in recognition of his tenure as the first director of the Human Relations Department.

                     WHEREAS, Alvin Brooks was the first director of the Human Relations Department (HRD), which is now the Civil Rights & Equal Opportunity Department; and

                     WHEREAS, as HRD director, Alvin Brooks, among other things, led the City in its fight against discrimination in private employment, promoted the eradication of redlining, and sought to eliminate racial bias in policing; and

                     WHEREAS, the Board Room will serve as a constant reminder of the work that has been done and give vision for the work that lies ahead; NOW, THEREFORE,

                     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Civil Rights & Equal Opportunity Department Board Room is dedicated to Alvin Brooks in recognition of his tenure as the first director of the Human Relations Department; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Alvin Brooks with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for his lifelong commitment to justice and equality.
